Film Composites
During my four years in photography school we were taught a lot about the truth of photography. Back when analog was the only way to make photographs, they were seen as true. Any time someone saw a photo there was no doubt in their mind that that thing happened. Once digital photography became popular, along with digital compositing, photography lost its reputation of being true at all. However, film still holds that assumption. People are more likely to believe a film photograph as real over a digital one.
I wanted to challenge this idea. Each of these photos have both film and digital aspects to them, and I composited them digitally to make them look like traditional black and white film.
I intentionally chose to composite them in such a way that they were just not believable, so that rather than just simply lying to my viewer I am making them question what they are seeing.
